The CSAT formula:
(Number of satisfied responses ÷ total number of responses) × 100 = CSAT score %
So if 80 out of 100 respondents rate their experience a 4 or 5, your CSAT is 80%.
A few practical notes on the math:
- Only count completed responses. Partial surveys skew the result.
- Segment your CSAT score by SKU, channel, and customer segment. A blended score hides almost everything useful.
- Track the trend over six to eight weeks, not the snapshot. One bad week is noise. A six-week slide is signal.
What is a good CSAT score?

You need both. Closed-ended questions like rating scales and multiple-choice give you quantitative data you can track over time and segment by SKU or channel. Pick a 1 to 5 rating scale and stick with it. It’s quick, intuitive, and easy to interpret. Emoji scales drive higher engagement on mobile but lose precision. 1 to 7 scales add granularity you probably won’t act on. Switching scales mid-quarter makes your survey data useless, so commit and move on.
